Jewish and German officials reached an agreement in principle on a process to compensate slave workers from the Nazi era and to provide restitution for Jewish property seized under the Nazi Aryanization program. The settlement could top $1 billion, according to some observers. The agreement removes Jewish groups’ opposition to Deutsche Bank’s planned $10.1 billion takeover of Bankers Trust.
