Non-governmental organizations enjoying consultative status with the United Nations will meet in New York prior to the opening of the U.N. General Assembly in September, with a view to seeking improvements in the proposed U.N. covenant on human rights and to securing efficient implementation of the covenant’s provisions, it was announced here today.
The announcement was made following a conference held by representatives of these organizations here at which proposals for improving the covenant were presented. Participating in the conferences were representatives of the Consultative Council of Jewish Organizations, World Jewish Congress, Agudas Israel World Organization and others.
The World ORT Union, which conducts vocational training programs among Jews in numerous countries, was requested today by a special commission of the U.N. Economic and Social Council to cooperate through its specialists and institutions in a project aiming at the rehabilitation of disabled persons and their reintegration into the economic life of the countries where they reside. The project has received the support of the International Labor Office, World Health Organization and International Red Cross.
