In the belief that increased juvenile criminality is due in some measure to the “inadequacies of social welfare organizations” and that “many such criminals could have been detected and directed at an early age,” the directors of the Jewish Big Brothers, a constituent group of the Jewish Board of Guardians, recommended to the Board of Superintendents of the Board of Education that social case work be introduced into the curriculum of the city’s various training schools for teachers.
Benjamin B. Greenberg, chairman, and Michael Smith, executive secretary of the Jewish Big Brothers, appeared yesterday afternoon before Dr. Gustave Straubenmuller, associate superintendent of schools in charge of training schools, and presented a resolution passed by the Big Brother organization.
