The ninth annual nationwide celebration of Jewish Book Month begins tomorrow under the auspices of the Jewish Book Council of America, which is sponsored by the National Jewish Welfare Board. Hundreds of Jewish Community Centers, synagogues, libraries, schools, bureaus of Jewish education, Jewish community councils, and youth councils will mark the month through exhibits, lectures, forums, symposia, pageants, book fairs and radio and television programs.
In New York, Mayor Vincent R. Impellitteri has issued a Jewish Book Month proclamation calling on “all our fellow citizens, Jew and non-Jew, to respond to the call of the Jewish Book Council of the National Jewish Welfare Board by appropriate observances throughout the month.” Synagogues affiliated with the Synagogue Council of America have set aside December 14th as Jewish Book Sabbath.
