Jewish Book Month to Mark Anniversaries of Famous Jewish Authors and Philosophers

The centennial anniversary of the birth of Oscar S. Straus–the first Jew to serve in a President’s Cabinet–and the 50th anniversary of the death of Isaac M. Wise, founder of Reform Judaism in America, will be marked by the Jewish Book Council of America during Jewish Book Month, November 3 – December 3, it was announced today. The Council is sponsored by the National Jewish Welfare Board.

The anniversaries of other noted Jewish authors, poets, scholars and philosophers will also be commemorated during Jewish Book Month. These include the 900th anniversary of the birth of Bachya Ibn Pakuda, author of the Hebrew classic “Duties of the Heart,” and the 25th anniversary of the death of Israel Zangwill.
