A strong protest against the Italian Government’s anti-Jewish policy was coupled today by the Jewish Peoples Council Against Fascism and anti-Semitism with threat of a boycott of Italian goods in the event the policy is pursued. Replying to an editorial in Giornale d’Italia, the Council asserted:
“In the event the Italian Government pursues its present course, boycotting of Italian goods is the only method to implement protest, but such a step will be taken in conjunction with other Jewish bodies, to which end the Council is taking appropriate steps.”
The Federated Burial Society, meanwhile, took measures to boycott Italian marble in the making of monuments and memorials. In a letter to members, the society asked that it be notified concerning orders for monuments to be erected in Jewish cemeteries, announcing that after Friday it intends to forbid erection of memorials made of Italian marble “until the inhuman persecution of the Jewish people in Italy ceases.”
The Daily Telegraph reports from Rome that 300 wealthy Jewish business men of Trieste have emigrated to the Baltic states and Australia. The Milan newspaper Corriere della Serra declares that all Italian insurance companies are controlled by a Jewish bloc whose capital runs into billions of lire, asserting that “this state of affairs must cease in the interests of the Italian race.”
