A Jewish Brotherhood of the Citizens’ Military Training Camps was organized at Fort McKinley this summer. The brotherhood was organized on the initiative of Judge Max L. Pinansky of Portland, who acted as volunteer Jewish chaplain at Fort McKinley during the present summer. Establishment of the organization was celebrated by a parade to Portland, headed by the Fifth Infantry Band. Arriving in the city the boys were met by a delegation of the local Jewish community and conducted to the synagogue where services were held. Officers were elected and plans devised by which The Jewish Brotherhood will begin functioning again at Fort McKinley as soon as the citizens’ military training period begins next year.
A meeting of the Jewish Brotherhood will be held in Boston during the winter, at which time steps will be taken to extend the organization to the Training Camps throughout the country, Judge Pinansky announced. Col. W. T. Wright, commandant of the training camp, and the Christian chaplains have been elected honorary members, in addition to Judge Pinansky, who is active in the B’nai Brith, the Keren Hayesod and the Jewish Welfare Board in this state.
