Over 500 Jewish businessmen held a meeting today in protest against the raids last week by German police and customs officials of the Jewish quarter of this city. The meeting also sent a telegram of protest to American High Commissioner John J. McCloy charging that the police discriminated against the Jewish businessmen.
Haurice Weinberger, president of the Jewish Businessmen’s Association, described the methods of the German police as similar to those of Gestapo troopers invading a ghetto. He charged that the police confiscated large stores of legally acquired goods on which full customs duty had been paid. Meanwhile, the police announced that 75 businesses had been closed down as a result of the raid and 16 caraods of various types of goods had been seized on charges of having been smuggled into the country.
