The second swastika-smearing incident, desecrating Jewish cemeteries in a month, was reported here today by Federal officials. The latest outrage took place over the weekend in the Jewish cemetery of Porto Alegre, the third largest Jewish community in Brazil, Police said several dozen gravestones were smeared with swastikas, inscribed with “Heil, Hitler!” and other stones were overturned.
A month ago, similar cemetery desecrations occurred at the Jewish burial grounds at Curitiba. Police authorities said today they have been trying to trace the vandals but that, so far, have met with no success.
