The British Information Service, an agency of the British Government, today reported that fifty thousand copies of “Hayeled,” only Jewish children’s magazine now published in Europe, are being circulated through hundreds of British villages, to maintain contact between evacuated children and their home communities.
“Of the many refugees arriving from North Africa, a large number are enlisting in British and allied armed forces,” it also reported. “The Federation of Czechoslovak Jews and the Polish Jewish Refugee Fund are caring for the needs of all Jewish men with the Czechoslovak and Polish armies in Great Britain.”
The Imperial War Graves Commission has arranged with the United Synagogue of Britain to reserve special cemetery plots for Jewish members of British armed forces. The Commission agreed to furnish a memorial stone in the shape of the Star of David for these plots.
