Separate benches for Jewish children have been introduced in a number of public schools in Argentina as a result of the introduction of compulsory teaching of the Catholic religion by the Argentine authorities, it was reliably reported here today.
The Jewish children are boycotted and humiliated by their non-Jewish schoolmates, the report said. Many Jewish parents are consequently considering removing their children from the local schools.
The system of compulsory religious education introduced in the Argentine schools is one of the measures which, though not aimed especially against Jews, nevertheless hits Jews the hardest. Under this system each child must state his religion. Children registering as Jewish are separated from the others since they do not receive the religious instruction.
