Twelve hundred Jewish colonists in the Crimea are in a difficult position because they are without seed. The Crimean colonies require a hundred thousand pud of seed, but so far have received only 30,000 pud. It is not known whether they will receive the rest, because the government is unable to supply it.
The situation has become so grave that Rykov took up the question today, declaring that for political and economic interests, such a situation in the Jewish colonies is intolerable. He urged the Commissariat of Trade to do something to provide the necessary seeds as a loan.
If seeds are not obtained within the next four days, 7,500 hectares in the Simferopol. Jankoy and Yevpatoria districts, where the colonists have been settled for five years, will remain unsown. This may result in the migration of 1,200 families from the colonies because they will have no prospects for bread for the entire year.
The Ukrainian Jewish colonies lack of seed has now been more or less satisfactorily settled. Fearing lack of bread the Crimean colonists, who so far have turned over their grain to the government, are now refusing to do so. This is causing trouble to many.
