While praising the political resolution adopted jointly by the Zionist Organization of America and the Hadassah at their conventions last week in New York, the London Jewish Chronicle in an article today expresses apprehension regarding the term “Jewish Commonwealth” used in the resolution.
The paper believes that confusion may result from using the word “Commonwealth” which has no clear connotation instead of the word “State.” It points out that “Zionism has suffered too much from vagueness and loose phraseology” and warns against “marching again into a verbal fog,” implying that term “Jewish Commonwealth” may be interpreted as vaguely as the term “Jewish National Home” which was embodied in the Balfour Declaration.
