The Council of Moroccan Jewish Communities decided today to convene a conference next week of all Jewish institutions in Morocco to coordinate activities and appoint a committee of public safety.
The Council also held a special meeting to discuss means of countering the major press campaign against Moroccan Jews unleashed by the Moroccan press following the January 11 sea disaster in which 43 Moroccan Jewish men, women and children fleeing to Israel perished.
The committee of public safety planned by the Moroccan Jewish Communities Council plans to ask Crown Prince Moulay Hassan for an audience to discuss various problems affecting Moroccan Jews. The committee was to be appointed quickly so that it could hold its first meeting next week.
