The Jewish community elections which will be held tomorrow are occasioning bitter struggle between Zionists and anti-Zionists, as well as between the Zionist Federation, the bulk of the General Zionists and a handful of Mizrachists on the one hand and the Mizrachi Federation, a handful of dissenting Zionists and various groups of anti-Zionists on the other.
The elections, in which every Jew is entitled to vote, will select the general assembly of 70 members and an administrative council of twelve. The elections being based on proportional representation the fact that five parties are contesting for votes makes it quite possible that no party will obtain an absolute majority in the next general assembly. It may also mean that the new community council will meet with serious difficulties resulting in a coalition and a compromise between the strongest groups.
