A Jewish musician and composer, Prof, Boris Blacher, has been commissioned to write an opera based on characters and situations from the tales of Sholem Aleichem. Under the contract, the opera will be ready for production in the summer of 1969. The works of Sholem Aleichem inspired the hit musical “Fiddler on the Roof” which has been playing for several years in the United States and abroad.
