The American Jewish Congress today hailed the decision of the Court of Appeals, handed down this weekend, that probable cause exists for investigating its charges against the Arabian American Oil Company, Aramco, of discriminating against Jewish applicants for jobs.
In a six to one ruling, the court held that chairman Carter of the State Commission Against Discrimination “shall immediately endeavor to eliminate the unlawful employment practice complained of” by the American Jewish Congress, or refer the matter to SCAD as a whole for a further hearing.
In welcoming the ruling, the American Jewish Congress today called for “prompt action by the State Commission Against Discrimination” to obtain “full compliance” by Aramco with the State fair employment law, “Aramco’s flouting of the State anti-discrimination law has continued long enough, ” Shad Polier, vice-president of the American Jewish Congress, said in a statement issued here. Mr. Polier served as attorney for the organization in the case.
