Charles H. Silver, president of the New York City Board of Education, has given his personal assurance to the American Jewish Congress that there will be no religious instruction in public school classrooms and that “the religious sensibilities of all children will be preserved,” it was reported today.
Mr. Silver expressed his confidence that “no abuses” would occur in the implementation of the controversial statement entitled “The Development of Moral and Spiritual Ide is in the Public Schools, “which was adopted last month by the Board of Education over the criticisms of official religious, teachers and communal groups, including the American Jewish Congress.
