A report on the rapid growth of extreme right-wing groups in the United States was discussed here today by the National Governing Council of the American Jewish Congress. The Council, composed of more than 100 members from various parts of the country, is the agency’s policy-making body, and concluded a two-day session this afternoon.
In submitting a report on this subject, Will Maslow, executive director of the American Jewish Congress, said that “the new right-wing coalition can no longer be dismissed as a miscellaneous collection of eccentrics” or political misfits. “The Far Right is now a public danger,” he emphasized. “It is the task of the liberal community to resist these forces, even knowing that everything to the left of the John Birch Society will be labeled as subversive.”
