The American Jewish Congress charged today that a bill passed by the New York State Assembly requiring public school boards to furnish textbooks to parochial and private school pupils was “in plain conflict with the State Constitution and the decisions of the State courts.”
The statement was contained in a legal memorandum sent by the Congress to every member of the State Senate. A parallel bill has been introduced in the Senate and action on it is expected next week.
