Officers of the American Jewish Congress together with members of the Administrative Committee met at noon yesterday under the chairmanship of Dr. Stephen S. Wise, at the Hotel Pennsylvania, to take action with regard to the anti-Jewish riots which are taking place in Berlin and other sections in Germany.
A number of steps were decided upon, aiming at prevention of further outrages and a special sub-committee was appointed, consisting of the following: Judge Aaron J. Levy, Joseph Barondess, Congressman Nathan D. Perlman, Judge Louis D. Gibbs, George I. Fox, and Dr. Stephen S. Wise, ex-officio.
The Committee will present a report on its efforts at the meeting of the Executive Committee which will beheld November 18 and which will consider also the future activities of the Congress.
The concern of the State Department over the Jewish situation in Bavaria has been communicated to the offices of the Jewish Congress, it is learned. Correspondence with regard to the situation of the Jews in Bavaria which developed when the expulsion of Jews was begun, was initiated by the Jewish Congress with the State Department and it is understood that the sympathy of the United States Government had been assured.
