The American Jewish Congress charged here that the present method of selection of probation officers for the Children’s Court Division on the basis of religion not only is a violation of New York State’s anti-discrimination law, but is also “utterly unsound and indefensible probation practice.” Testifying at closed hearings of the State Probation Commission, Shad Polier, head of the AJC national executive, read letters backing the AJC, stand from the Department of Christian Social Relations of the Episcopal Diocese of New York and Rabbi Emanuel Rackman, president of the New York Board of Rabbis.
