At a dinner tendered to the Budget Fund Campaign Committee of the American Jewish Congress at the Aldine Club, on Wednesday evening. Dr. Louis I. Harris, former Commissioner of Health of New York City, presiding, the Budget Fund Campaign for the American Jewish Congress was launched. To meet the budget fund requirements for a period of two years, Dr. Harris announced that the Committee had decided upon the amount of $250,000, and felt that the Jewish people of this country would over-subscribe the quota set.
Dr. Stephan S. Wise during his address called upon the workers to do their share in the raising of the budget fund. Dr. Wise stated that the Congress was a representative organization constituted on democratic principles and that, in addition to the protection of Minority Rights, the Congress aimed at developing democratic Jewish leaders.
Among the other speakers of the evening were Major Julius I. Peyser of Washington. Chairman of the Executive Committee, and Carl Sherman. Chairman of the Administrative Committee.
At the conclusion of the evening Dr. Harris announced that preliminary subscriptions amounting to $18,000 were received.
