Marking the anniversary of the Nazi invasion of Poland which occurred on September 1, 1939 and which caused the outbreak of the present world war, the American and World Jewish Congress, issued a statement here today directing a message of greeting “to the heroic Polish people and to its brethren in Poland on this day, commemorating our common sorrow and marking our common resolve to fight until a better future is won for all of us.”
The statement issued over the signatures of Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Judge Julian W. Mack and Dr. Nahum Goldmann further declares: “The Jewish people joins all of civilized mankind in its desire to have a free Poland re-constituted as soon as possible. The Jewish soldiers in the allied armies are fighting for Polish freedom and Poland’s future. Together with the entire Jewish people, they are grateful to the Polish Government for its statement assuring the perfect equality of rights which the Jewish citizens of Poland will enjoy in the future Poland, being able to develop their own lives in a land which is a home and a just fatherland to all its inhabitants.”
