Alal El Fassi, former Minister of Islamic Affairs here, said today that since his resignation from the Government, the Islamic Affairs Ministry has been virtually dormant because of the steadily dwindling number of Jewish converts to Islam. Mr. El Fassi, who is also president of the nationalist Istiqlal party here, added that the fact that the Ministry was not promoting such conversions was “contrary to the Islamic religion,” which favors proselytism.
