A two-day national conference of Jewish cooperatives in Poland has decided to put more stress on training their members for skilled work, it was reported here today from Warsaw.
Speakers at the conference pointed out that there was no more room for the output of semi-skilled craftsmen in any branch of industry, and that unless all members were highly skilled, there was no future for the cooperatives. They said the cooperatives had fulfilled their functions since the Second World War by giving Jewish craftsmen an outlet for their products. The speakers hailed ORT and other vocational training facilities as being of significant value to the training program. It was also decided to introduce a systematic cultural program as a permanent feature of the activity of the cooperatives in place of the sporadic cultural projects carried out in the past.
