The American people will never forget that the Soviet armies stood Hitler at bay while the world “still trombled in the balance,” Dr. Stephen S. Wise today told delegates from 2,000 Jewish organizations attending the fourth annual conference of the Jewish Council of Russian War Relief at Manhattan Center,
Speaking on behalf of the American and the World Jewish Congress, he urged the delegates to increase their aid to the people of the Soviet Union and to surpass the $3,000,000 gift program set by the conference as the Council’s 1945 quota. Dr. Wise was unanimously elected honorary co-chairman, with Professor Albert Einstein, of the Jewish Council for Russian War Relief. An advisory board headed by James M. Rosenberg, chairman of the board of the Joint Distribution Committee, was also elected.
