Leaders of Jews in Germany, representing the Central Jewish Council, at a press conference here demanded that the German Government issue a statement clarifying its policy on restitution of property confiscated by the Nazis as well as on compensation for Nazi-looted property. The Jewish leaders all requested that the Bonn Government introduce federal legislation on restitution that will be binding for all states in West Germany.
The United States High Commission in Germany announced the dissolution of its property division and the transfer of its functions and responsibilities under the restitution law and general claims programs to the office of the general counsel of the Commission and the public affairs department. Inquiries from abroad regarding property interests in Germany will in the future be handled by the American Consulate General in Frankfurt.
