“jewish Current News” to Be Given Free to Bar Mitzvah Children of Brith Sholom

Jewish Current News, the weekly newspaper for the Jewish youth of America, will be given as a gift to every boy and to every girl reaching confirmation, provided their parents are members of the fraternal order Brith Sholom, according to an announcement made by Martin O. Levy, Grand Secretary.

Jewish Current News will resume publication for the current scholastic year beginning Friday, October 20. It is used in the leading religious schools, Talmud Torahs and community centers of the country.

The decision of the Brith Sholom to give Jewish Current News as a gift to the children of its members is in keeping with a policy of the order to keep its members posted in the affairs happening in the Jewish world. By placing in the hands of the children Jewish Current News, members feel they will help the children considerably. The forth coming issue of the Brith Sholomite —the official publication of Brith Sholom—will carry a full page ad calling upon the members of Brith Sholom throughout the country to avail themselves of this offer.

In a statement to a representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. Mr. Levy characterized the Jewish Current News as one of the most useful publications in the English language. “I have been receiving Jewish Current News all of last year—when it was still called Jewish Current Events—and have passed it along to a number of young people whom I know. These read it with a great deal of interest and I know were greatly benefited by it. Not enough attention is being paid to the Jewish youth of our country. I feel that more should be done in the direction of initiating them into Jewish life and into Jewish activity. and Jewish Current News is a good start. In deciding to give a year’s subscription of Jewish Current News to the children of Bar Mitzvoh or of confirmation age whose parents are members of Brith Sholom, I believe we are setting a good example. My hope is that others will do likewise.”
