The Jewish Daily Forward, largest Yiddish daily newspaper in the world, today began a three-month celebration of its 50th anniversary which will culminate at a mass-meeting at Madison Square Garden on May 25, arranged by more than 100 labor organizations, with Abraham Cahan, 87-year-old editor of the Forward, as guest of honor.
The newspaper’s jubilee will also be celebrated in Chicago, Philadelphia, Newark, Boston, Baltimore, Detroit and Los Angeles where the Forward has branch offices. Founded in 1897, the Forward is a non-profit newspaper devoted to strengthening the labor union movement among Jews. It is pro-Zionist and anti-Communist and has been a Social-Democratic organ since its inception.
