Representatives of the Jewish Congress, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society and of the International Mercantile Marine, at the conference yesterday at the offices of the company which controls the Red Star Line and the White Star Line, completed arrangements for the transportation by water of the excess quota Jewish immigrants ordered deported from the United States and admissable to Canada on a special dispensation.
Representatives of the Congress and of Hias will accompany the deportees on the steamers that will carry then to Halifax. From there, it was explained, the immigrants will go to different parts of Canada, there to remain until the next Russian quota opens in the United States.
Those at the conference yesterday included Joseph Barondess, Bernard G. Richards of the American Jewish Congress, Isaac L. Assofsky, General Manager of the Hias, officers of the International Mercantile Marine, as well as of the Immigration Department of the Shipping Conference who guaranteed to carry back any of the deportees in event of their rejection by the Canadian immigration authorities and in the event of any of them becoming public charges during the first two years of their sojourn in Canada.
