Opposition to the present Polish Government-in-Exile was expressed today at a session of the Polish National Council by the Jewish deputy Emanuel Szerer who charged the Government with failing to check dissemination of anti-Jewish propaganda among Polish civilians as well as in the Polish armed forces. Such propaganda, he said, is being conducted by certain reactionary Polish groups.
“The present composition of the Polish Government, Mr. Szerer said, “hampers the realization of democracy in present day Polish life as well as for post-war Poland. Therefore, the “Bund,” the Jewish Socialist Party, will maintain its opposition to the present government.”
Mr. Szerer, who is the only “Bund” representative in the Council, dwelt extensively on the anti-Semitic propaganda which is being carried on in the ranks of the Polish army and among Polish refugees. “After four years of declarations regarding Jewish equality, it is high time to give practical expression to the principle of equality,” he declared. He appealed to the Polish Government to adopt his proposal for combatting anti-Semitism in the Polish army and also demanded that urgent considerationable given to other proposals which he suggested with a view to halting the mass-murder of Jews in Poland by the Nazis.
