(Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
Many valuable documents bearing on the history of the Jewish communities in Galicia and Bukowina since 1772 and concerning the Jewish communities in Moravia, Bohemia and Silecia since 1550 were destroyed in the Austrian State archives which were burned during the riots of last week, it became known today.
The archives also contained documents concerning the history of the Jewish community in Vienna and in Venice.
Important papers emanating from the Jewish archives of the former court chancellors were also destroyed. The loss is particularly severe in view of the fact that Jewish historians have only of late started to investigate these documents.
