A 22-year-old Jewish DP–Wolf Mendelewicz–has notified police here that the chief of the pickpocket section of the Frankfurt police department, Hermann Dietz, was a Gestapo official in Ostrowice, Poland, from October-December, 1944, and was responsible for the mass murder of Jews in that town.
Following Dietz’ detention by the local prosecutor, the accused admitted that he knew Mendelewicz–who is a former Ostrowice resident–but denied participation in any pogrom activities in the Polish town. Dietz is now awaiting trial here. One of the witnesses expected to testify for the prosecution is another former SS official now under arrest, Hermann Baab.
