The Central Jewish Committee in the British zone of Germany, which is located at Belsen, has rejected a plan for “exchanging” the 20,000 displaced Jews under British administration for a like number of displaced Poles now in the American zone, it was learned today.
In turning down the proposal, which was made informally through unoffical sources, the committee said that the transfer would aggravate the position of the Jewish DP’s in the U.S. zone by increasing their number. In addition, the Jews in the British zone are unwilling to surrender to the Polish DP’s the bulk of whom are anti-Semitic, the quarters and conditions they have secured after a long, difficult struggle.
