The National Jewish Welfare Board’s Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy has received an official communication from Gen. Lewis B. Hershey, director of the Selective Service System, announcing that all local draft boards have been asked to give “favorable consideration, whenever possible” to requests by Jewish registrants for postponement of their physical examination or induction into the Armed Forces until after Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur if such examination or induction is scheduled for either date.
