Problems and impending changes in Jewish education were discussed here at the 23rd annual pedagogic conference of the Jewish Education Committee of New York attended by more than 1,000 principals and teachers of Jewish schools in the greater New York area.
In a report on future plans of the JEC, Dr. Azriel Eisenberg, executive vice-president, said that greater attention would be paid to adolescent youth, summer camps and the home. Granum Berger, consultant on religious education for the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, made a strong plea for the development of education under communal auspices rather than under congregational auspices.
C. Bezalel Sherman, sociologist and author, stressed that Jewish education, because it is supplementary and is relentlessly pressed by internal and external factors, must address itself to all facets of American Jewish life.
