The number of Jews who arrived in Vienna from the Soviet Union during September was 405, the lowest monthly figure ever since emigration began, it was reported by Charlotte Jacobson, chairwoman of the Soviet Jewry Research Bureau of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry.
Stressing the critical situation for Soviet Jews, Mrs. Jacobson stated that “frustration is mounting as Jewish emigration for this year gradually decreases to a mere trickle. As fewer and fewer exit visas are being granted, we are finding ourselves amidst the most severe emigration restrictions ever levied against Soviet Jews.”
