A gravestone bearing the inscription, “Israel, son of Mordecai,” and dated 1284 was discovered by workmen here restoring the Frankfurt Cathedral. The Cathedral is located on the site of a Jewish cemetery that was destroyed in 1349, when the Jews in this city were subjected to persecution. The stone was later used in the altar work of the Cathedral.
