Prompt Senate ratification of the United Nations Charter was urged by the American Jewish Committee and the Central Conference of American Rabbis in memoranda submitted to the Senate Foreign Relations committee.
The committee stressed the “obvious interest” of Jews in adoption of the charter and anticipation of the early creation under its aegis of a commission for the promotion of human rights. “We believe,” its memorandum said “that the American people today hail that document as a notable step forward in the direction of international peace and security.” The rabbinical conference expressed its gratification with the Charter’s “promise of peace and international cooperation.”
