Dr. Bertram W. Korn, president of the American Jewish Historical Society, has been appointed to the Advisory Council of the Civil War Centennial Commission of the Federal Government by Major General U. S. Grant, 3d, chairman of the Commission, The Civil War Centennial Commission was appointed by Congress to supervise and encourage celebrations by the Federal Government, the States and local communities of the various events and experiences of the Civil War period.
Dr. Korn is the author of four books dealing with the general period of the Civil War, including the standard study on “American Jewry and the Civil War.” The American Jewish Historical Society is planning to create a travelling exhibit on Jewish participation in the Civil War which will be available to a number of communities throughout the country.
