The legalization of the status of 2,000 Jewish “infiltrees” now living in Belsen is a top priority problem in the British zone of Germany, Leonard Cohen, chairman of the Jewish Committee on Relief Abroad, declared today, on returning from a two weeks tour of Germany.

According to the policy of British authorities, refugees coming from Poland are considered the responsibility of the Germans. The “infiltrees” are living in an UNRRA camp, but UNRRA is not permitted to look after them. They receive no food either from UNRRA or from German authorities, and are dependent on JDC supplies or on contributions from the rations of the original Belsen DP’s.

Norbert Wollheim and Joseph Rosensaft, of the Jewish Central Committee in the British zone, have arrived in London to discuss their position with the government and with Jewish organizations.
