Several graduates of the Jewish Institute of Religion were ordained here today by Dr. Stephen S. Wise, president of the institution, who was also awarded honorary doctorates to four American Jewish leaders. They are: Rabbi James G. Hellper, Rabbi Jacob P. Rudin, Dr. Israel H, Levinthal and Rabbi Bernard L. Levinthal.
Dr. Abraham J. Feldman, of Hartford, president or the Central Conference of American Rabbis, who delivered the commencement address, told the newly-ordained rabbis that Jewish survival cannot rest solely on Jewish nationalism. The preaching of religious faith is still the prime purpose of the modern rabbi, he declared.
