Bruno Wolff, Viennese Jewish editor, was shot and instantly killed before a startled courtroom by Oscar Poessl, a Catholic, who had brought Wolff before the court on charges of libel against him.
The shooting was the climax of a long feud between the two, dating back to 1925 when they were both editors of the “Wiener Neues Journal.” At that time the accusations of Wolff against Poessl of corrupt practices, led to Poessl’s dismissal from his post as assistant to Wolff. Wolff later repeated his charges in public and Poessl brought the damage suit.
