Appeals Court Judge Leopold Greenberg has been appointed Acting Chief Justice of South Africa during the lengthy leave of Chief Justice Centlivres, it was announced here today. This is the highest governmental post ever held by a Jew in the history of the Union.
Judge Greenberg was the youngest judge ever appointed to the South African bench when he was named 29 years ago. Now 68 years of age, Justice Greenberg was for many years honorary president of the Jewish National Fund of South Africa and is now honorary president of the Union’s Friends of the Hebrew University.
