Milton M. Alexander, Detroit Jewish communal leader, who was one of the speakers at the mass meeting of Detroit Poles celebrating Polish Navy Day, took occasion to attack Hitlerism. The meeting was called to urge the nations of the world to resist any attempt to return Pomerania, the “Polish Corridor,” to Germany.
“The rape of Belgium has been followed by the rape of Israel,” declared Mr. Alexander, speaking “as a Jew” in his opening remarks, in which he asserted that the nations of the world owe it to civilization to check the “mad rampage” of Hitlerite Germany. He expressed the opinion that the official protest of the Polish Government, in which it listed names, addresses and details of 110 individual cases of mistreatment of Polish Jews in Germany, was a most important element in establishing the authenticity of the German atrocities.
