The Virtuti Militari, Poland’s highest military decoration, has been awarded posthumously to Abram Blum, a member of the Jewish Socialist Bund who was one of the leaders of the Warsaw Ghetto revolt.

The decoration was presented to Blum’s widow, Luba Blum-Bielicka, director of a Jewish children’s home at Otwock, by a group of officers representing the high command.

Bund groups throughout Poland have been celebrating, this month, the 48th anniversary of the organization’s establishment. Although many of its leaders perished in the struggle against the Nazis, Bund clubs have been re-established in Warsaw, Lodz, Cracow, Lublin, Czenstochowa, Tarnow and other smaller cities.
