The World Jewish Congress is making an investigation into the problems arising from racial and religious prejudice in textbooks used in various nations, Dr. Noah Barou, W.J.C. leader, told a meeting of the International Conference on Adult Education here which is sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
The preliminary findings of the survey, Dr. Barou revealed, show that an improvement of teaching media on an international level is a matter of the greatest urgency. The survival of the Jews, who have lost one-third of their total number in the past 15 years, is possible only in a world free of racial and religious hatred, fascism, and anti-Semitism.
Asserting that adult education is the best method for developing a unified, progressive, peaceful and creative world, Dr. Barou added that the voluntary agencies in the educational field must press for full coordination of their efforts and for state support of their tasks. One hundred and thirty delegates from 25 countries and 22 international organizations are attending the conference. The W.J.C. is the only Jewish body represented.
