Jewish leaders are slated to hold four days of meetings with Vatican officials that will likely focus on a document released last week by the Vatican on the Church’s role during the Holocaust. Most Jewish officials criticized the document for not going far enough in acknowledging the church’s inaction during the war. Meanwhile, Pope John Paul II told reporters he thought that the wartime pope, Pius XII, was a “great” pontiff.
