Jewish leaders here today voiced regret at the death on Friday of Lord Hirst of Witton, the former Hugo Hirsch, who was known as “Britain’s electricity king.” Lord Hirst, who emigrated to England from Germany when a youth, was greatly interested in the development of Palestine, especially the hydro-electric power plant on the River Jordan. For many years Lord Hirst was chairman of the General Electric Co., Ltd. He was 79 years old. His grandson and heir, Pilot Officer Harold Hirst, was killed in action in 1941.
